Therapy is the trail guide...
...psychological testing is the map
A comprehensive evaluation can be a map to clarify what a person is struggling with and provide the path for the most effective treatment plan moving forward. At Clear Path Psychological, a psychological evaluation report includes a full history, explanation of 15-20 psychological tests and interviews with their results, full diagnostic information, and treatment recommendations. An average evaluation is 30-40 pages in length.

The Process
Psychological Testing
At Clear Path Psychological, the following is the testing process from start to finish:1) Once an evaluation date is set, CPP will send out necessary consent forms to the parents and family members to complete and return.
2) Parents, family members, and therapists will be asked to complete several written and oral interviews.
3) The client is asked to complete written testing before in-person testing begins.
4) The evaluating psychologist meets with the client in person to administer testing protocols, conduct an interview, and discuss concerns.
5) The evaluator then gathers additional information from current therapists and providers, conduct sinterviews with parents and family members,
reviews of the testing data, and creates preliminary testing results
6) The evaluator provides an in-depth verbal review and discussion of results with parents and therapists, current mental health providers, and educational consultants as applicable.
7) A comprehensive written report based on all the information gathered is created.
8) The final report is sent electronically via a secured email.

| What is the difference between therapy and psychological testing? | Therapy is an ongoing relationship between a therapist and a client, in which the therapist guides the client through supportive processes aimed at change and healing, and may be provided by a psychologist (PhD, PsyD) or a trained clinician such as a family therapist or social worker (MA, LCSW). In contrast, psychological testing is typically a one-time service conducted by a psychologist who administers and interprets assessments, gathers relevant information, and provides feedback and a written report, without continuing in a therapeutic role after the evaluation is complete. |
| What findings come from psychological testing? | Various neuropsychological and psychological test measures are designed to gather information about an individual across specific areas of functioning (e.g., thinking, attention, impulse control, emotional distress, coping, behavior, relationships, substance use), and are most useful when multiple tests and perspectives (e.g., parents, self, therapist) are considered together as part of a comprehensive battery. These tests are as reliable as other medical assessments and, when interpreted in the context of the individual’s history, tend to confirm and clarify existing concerns rather than reveal surprises, while providing meaningful guidance for diagnosis and treatment planning. |
| What is the difference between tests, assessments, and evaluations? | Tests and assessments are two related components of a psychological evaluation, both used by psychologists to inform diagnosis and treatment planning. Testing involves standardized, norm-referenced tools (e.g., questionnaires, checklists) that compare an individual’s performance to others, while assessment includes a broader range of methods such as interviews, records review, informal measures, and observations. Together, they provide a comprehensive view of an individual’s strengths and limitations, which is summarized in a psychological evaluation report. |
| What types of tests does Clear Path offer? | Testing includes behavioral, executive functioning, personality, emotional, achievement, IQ, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trauma, aptitude, learning disabilities, dexterity, reaction time, memory, and others. Because tests are changed or updated regularly, we don't list all of our current tests online. If you have a special request or questions about specific tests we are currently using, please contact us directly at [email protected]. |
| How long does testing take? | Testing is accomplished in two ways: through written protocols ahead of time and in-person administration. For in-person administration, Dr. Adams spends anywhere from 4 to 9+ hours with each individual he tests. If the client is agitated, or testing is otherwise difficult, testing may take longer. Dr. Adams is careful to take whatever time is necessary to complete the testing. |
| How much does a psychological evaluation cost? | Psychological evaluations differ greatly in their purpose and scope. For that reason, we do not publish a price list online. We ask that you e-mail us for a no-obligation phone consultation where we can gather necessary information about the client and we can give you a no obligation cost quote. You can contact us at [email protected] to set up a phone consultation. |
| Is a psychological evaluation covered by insurance? | Coverage depends on your insurance, as most companies will cover some portion of testing but vary in how many hours they approve, while our goal is to be thorough. Testing conducted in wilderness settings typically costs more due to travel and unique conditions and is often considered out of network, though costs in major metropolitan areas are generally comparable to home-based testing; many families find added benefit in wilderness settings due to increased student cooperation, but you will need to confirm coverage with your insurer. After testing is completed, we provide an insurance-coded invoice with CPT and ICD-10 codes that you can submit for reimbursement, with final coverage determined by your insurance company. |
